An EGG-cellent Way to Help Feed the Hungry

Two local “EGG-centric” organizations – Over Easy and Hickman’s Family Farms — are once again teaming up to help raise funds and eggs for United Food Bank. Last year the promotion raised $11,512 and 5,756 dozen eggs! This year’s goal is $20,000 and 10,000 dozen eggs!

United Food Bank has provided hunger relief to people in the East Valley and eastern Arizona since 1983. As a Feeding America member food bank, United Food Bank collects, acquires, stores, and distributes food to 150 partner agencies and programs in five counties.

Throughout the month of April, whenever you dine at one of the 11 Over Easy Arizona restaurant locations, you’ll see a prompt when paying your bill asking if you would like to make a donation to United Food Bank. When a patron makes a donation, Over Easy will match it DOLLAR for DOLLAR! So, whether you are craving Banana French Toast and Bloody Marys with friends or a Protein Waffle before the gym, you’ll be helping United Food Bank.

Plus, for each donation, Hickman’s Family Farms will deliver one dozen eggs to United Food Bank. So, for example, if a patron donates a dollar, United Food Bank will receive $2 and a dozen eggs! For 78 years, Hickman’s Family Farms has been supplying fresh, safe, affordable, and responsibly produced fresh eggs and related products.

“We so value our partnership with Over Easy and Hickman’s Family Farms,” stated United Food Bank CEO Dave Richins. “Their commitment is so important to helping us feed people throughout our service area of the East Valley and Eastern Arizona.”

Over Easy opens new Northeast Scottsdale location

RESTAURANTS | 12 hours ago |

Over Easy pioneered the daytime eatery concept, serving an all-day breakfast to lunch menu, in Arizona which opened the first restaurant in 2008 to rave reviews for the best breakfast in Phoenix. Today Over Easy continues to wow fans with a fresh made-from-scratch menu serving innovative meals prepared with a modern twist on the breakfast classics and served in a bright modern diner vibe decor. Over Easy is opening its newest location in Northeast Scottsdale in the Ancala Village Shopping Center at Frank Lloyd Wright and Via Linda on December 18th, 2019.

“We were drawn to this location because of the strong sense of community among the nearby neighborhoods, businesses, parks, trails, schools and churches all within minutes of this location. The Over Easy Ancala restaurant serves multiple communities along the McDowell mountains which includes easy access for dinners from Fountain Hills. Opening from 6:30AM to 2PM our focus is to become known as the friendly go-to spot for family, neighbors, friends and business associates to gather and enjoy a unique breakfast to lunch dining experience,” said Jared Field, of Plated Projects, Over Easy’s franchise partner.

“Over Easy will continue to lead the power-breakfast category offering a friendly dining experience with delicious fresh made meals along with an extensive daytime cocktail menu. By the end of this year Over Easy will have seven locations in the Phoenix metro area and one in Flagstaff.”, said Trace Richards, Over Easy Franchising COO. The expansion plans for 2020 include new stores in Mesa, Queen Creek, the valley’s westside and Tucson.

Unlike the typical national breakfast chains, Over Easy prides itself on their fresh scratch-made kitchen with a menu that includes; Chicken Fried Steak (featured on national TV programs), Cheddar Jalapeno Biscuits, world class Benedicts and Omelets and a lunch menu serving custom burgers and sandwiches. The brand image projects a bright, fresh and fun atmosphere with inviting interiors which attract a wide range of customers, from all ages, including families and friends to business meetings. The menu includes classic and signature cocktails including Bacon Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, Irish Coffee, specialty cocktails and beer to accompany the hearty dishes.

Over Easy valley locations are in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert along with the Arcadia, Biltmore communities and the Tatum and Shea PV neighborhood. Outside of the valley you will find Over Easy in Flagstaff, Bellingham WA and the Key Largo FL. Over Easy is expanding the brand across the country with a goal to become a stand-out national brand, known for providing guests a memorable breakfast to lunch dining experience.

Breakfast restaurant expands to Scottsdale, Chandler

By   – Reporter, Phoenix Business Journal

Over Easy, a Scottsdale-based breakfast-brunch-lunch concept, has just opened a new Valley location with another set to open later in November.

This week, Over Easy opened its sixth Valley location at a site in downtown Chandler in the Overstreet complex on the southwest corner of Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue.

Closer to Thanksgiving, another Over Easy restaurant will open in north Scottsdale at the Ancala Village Shopping Center on Via Linda and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard.

Over Easy owners also plan to expand its presence in the Valley even more in 2020 with new locations coming to Mesa, Queen Creek and the West Valley. There is already an Over Easy restaurant in Flagstaff, and there are plans to add one in Tucson next year as well.

Founded in 2008, Over Easy has been featured on The Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” Its menu includes breakfast and lunch fare including chicken fried steak and banana nut French toast.

Over Easy also has restaurants in Washington state and Florida.

12 Best Chicken and Waffles Plates in Greater Phoenix

It might be slightly cringe-worthy to walk into any local restaurant that has the godawful neon stencil of Guy Fieri on the wall, but, hey — it isn’t Over Easy’s fault that it rocks breakfast so hard that (obnoxious) TV personalities have taken note. The secret to this Arcadia breakfast hots pot’s chicken and waffles has to be the sauce. Though it’s just a combination of syrup and Cholula stirred tableside, it complements the crispy fried boneless chicken breast and slightly overcooked (but in a good way) waffle equally with the sweetness and spiciness that both need.

Restaurant of the Week: Over Easy

On our recent visit to Flagstaff, we had the opportunity to check out Over Easy, a breakfast restaurant that has been featured on the Food Network and has been recognized as one one of America’s best breakfast and brunch restaurants by Travel + Leisure.

While Over Easy is a franchise concept, restaurant group Plated Projects owns the Over Easy location in Flagstaff, as well as 3 locations in the Valley. Plated Projects has a variety of other concepts and was founded by childhood friends, Ryan and Jared Field, Brian Terpay, and Tim Pacatte, who are natives to Arizona.

Over Easy is bright and welcoming – that’s how we would describe both the decor and the staff. The staff we met at the Flagstaff location were bubbly, friendly and attentive.

While the decor and service stands out, the real star is the food itself. Over Easy serves all of your basic favorites, in addition to some elevated, more decadent classics.

Several Over Easy dishes have been featured on TV, so there is a whole section of the menu calling out those super stars. This list includes the Waffle Dogs, Chicken & Waffles, Ham Steak, Chicken Fried Steak and Nut Banana French Toast.

Some other menu items we think are worthy of noting is the selection of Avocado Toast, Chilaquiles, Green Chile Pork & Grits and the Cheddar Jalapeño Biscuits with Country Gravy.

If you’re looking for something healthy, they have a Fit Chicken dish and a Protein Bowl. They also serve omelets, burgers and sandwiches.

Every location is opens until 2pm daily.

3 Ways to Celebrate Hot Breakfast Month

February is National Hot Breakfast Month and a chance to take time for this most important meal of the day.  These days a hot breakfast is much more than bacon and hash browns. Here are three of our favorite updated takes on the morning meal sure to suit any diet.

Protein Bowl: Superfood quinoa and two sunny eggs are the one-two punch in this bowl that will keep you filled all morning. They’re topped with sausage, peppers, tomatoes and wild arugula.

Green Chili and Grits: Slow-cooked pork, green chili sauce and a sunny egg top a beautiful serving of black pepper parmesan grits.

Loko Moko: In this Hawaiian favorite, steamed white rice is covered in mushroom gravy, crispy onions and a ground beef patty. It’s topped with a sunny egg.

Over Easy Part of N. Phoenix Restaurant Revival

Over Easy Paradise Valley has been a part of a restaurant revival in the area around the intersection of Tatum & Shea Boulevards. An article in  the Chamber Business News talks about how neighborhood restaurant concepts like Over Easy are turning the fading commercial corridor into an emerging foodie destination.

The article quotes Phoenix Councilwoman Debra Stark about the important role restaurants have to the community:

“The surrounding neighborhoods now have so many choices for dining. I believe that the neighborhoods will continue to see only positive growth and investment that will directly benefit them.” – Councilwoman Debra Stark

Game Day Catering

Chef Aaron May knows a thing or two about cooking for a football watch party. In addition to cooking at tailgaters of all sizes, the founder and Executive Chef of Over Easy once prepared food for 2,500 people at an official Super Bowl players pre-game tailgater.

May says whether you are feeding family or professional athletes, everyone appreciates a bountiful selection of food.

“Something about tailgating, and brunch in general, unleashes a desire for variety in food choices.” – Chef Aaron May

A burrito bar is a simple way to create an impressive buffet with options for everyone. With burritos, it’s easy to have lots of different salsas, cheeses and types of tortillas. The more you have, the better it will set up!

May says start with flavors and textures. Have a mix of proteins, starches and veggies. Add contrast with raw and cooked veggies. Acids, like citrus, and marinades let complimentary flavors balance out.

Traditional Breakfast Burrito: The Over Easy Breakfast Burrito is a favorite go-to, rolling eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and pico de gallo and cheese into an easy-to-eat flour tortilla.

May’s pro tip for keeping eggs fresh is to whip some sour cream into soft scrambled eggs when they come off the heat. It adds a nice flavor and keeps them from oxidizing and developing that sulfur taste.

For other burrito variations try a Green Chile Pork Breakfast Burrito or a Roasted Veggie Burrito. The key, says May, is to prep everything ahead of time: green chile pork can stay warm in a crock pot, crispy bacon can sit out and be delicious while you’re making eggs. Finish off the buffet with some fresh lime wedges, picked cilantro, smashed avocado and a tray of all different hot sauces. It will be the first touchdown of the day.

If preparing your own Burrito Bar isn’t in your game plan, Over Easy Catering can help.
